OX Tools is a brand specialising in professional and dependable hand tools for every specialist in trade. With a brief to enhance the OX tool experience for the customer, our team focused on creating a unified packaging series to establish strong first impressions for tools which would last a lifetime.
One of the major observations regarding the existing packaging was the inconsistency across the range. Each of the tools had their own unique packaging, varying in materials, pieces, branding and the method of display in the retail environment. For example, the square trowel uses only a single sticker label with no branding, whereas the brick trowel has three pieces using a combination of PP and cable ties. Analysing the packaging for five different tools above, there were seven different materials used. The shade of blue on the packaging was not the same across the entire range, and some had accents of black while others used white.
The final design.
Products displayed in the retail environment is the first physical point of contact for customers to experience the brand, and it is crucial to create strong first impressions which reflect the brand values. A series of packaging was designed with the concept of βONEβ- one material type, one sheet, and one design. This was to simplify the product packaging to create a premium, recognisable look.
The benefit of using one sheet of polypropylene will drastically reduce tooling costs and excess waste, reducing the materials needed for single use packaging and unifying the design. The packaging for the tiling trowels have been designed to last beyond the initial purchase, as the durable PP sleeves will ensure the longevity of the trowels with the protection professional tools deserve.
